Our 24 hour emergency hospital in Bury, as well as our branches in Fairfield and Bradshaw, are easily accessible, convenient and just a stone’s throw away from nearby Manchester and the Lake District.

About Us

We’re a RCVS-accredited, two-site small animal practice based in Bury and Bolton, with a 24-hour A&E hospital in Bury. Our caseload is diverse, fast-paced, and always rewarding.

You’ll work alongside an incredible team of:

  • 14 Vets
  • 20 Nurses, Student Nurses and Animal Care Assistants
  • 13 dedicated support colleagues

Our hospital is fully equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound, and in-house laboratory facilities — everything you need to deliver gold-standard emergency and inpatient care.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse with a passion for emergency and inpatient care. Experience of critical care would be advantageous.

Key details:

  • One week of nights on, one week off – giving you a great work / life balance
  • 7 days on duty, Monday to Sunday, 8.5 hours per shift 1-10pm (average 29.75 hours per week)
  • Occasional overtime available

You’ll be part of a close-knit team that supports each other, handles a wide range of emergencies, and delivers outstanding patient care around the clock.

        ** Competitive salary – up to £25,989.60 (£34,944 FTE) depending on experience **

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Provides a high level of care to hospitalised patients, always ensuring patient comfort and welfare.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of medical conditions
  • Effectively manages time and prioritises workload when caring for multiple hospitalised patients.
  • Assists with and performs triage for emergency appointments.
  • Is proactive and forward-thinking, preparing in advance for potential emergency cases.
  • Has strong communication and organisational skills
  • Is able to work under pressure with multiple emergencies

Join Our Out of Hours Nursing Team!

Are you a passionate RVN who thrives in an emergency environment and loves the variety and challenges of hospital nursing?

We’re looking for a confident, enthusiastic and dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly and supportive Out of Hours team at Armac Vets!

Our busy 24-hour hospital offers a varied and interesting caseload, from medical emergencies to surgical procedures and critical care patients. No two nights are ever the same!

With our fantastic 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota, you’ll have plenty of time to recharge, enjoy life outside work and maintain a great work-life balance.

 

The Role – What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our dedicated OOH team, you’ll play an essential role in providing excellent overnight care to our patients and supporting their owners when they need us most.

Your responsibilities will include:

Providing high-quality nursing care to hospitalised, emergency and critically ill patients.
Assisting veterinary surgeons with emergency procedures, surgery and anaesthesia.
Monitoring patients and providing excellent post-operative and critical care.
Remaining calm, confident and organised in a busy emergency environment.
Supporting clients with compassion, empathy and professionalism.
Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring effective patient handovers.
Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control throughout the hospital.
Working closely with our veterinary and nursing teams to deliver outstanding patient care.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

Is an RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse.
Has a passion for emergency and critical care.
Is confident assisting with emergency procedures and anaesthesia.
Can remain calm and work effectively under pressure.
Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Is proactive, organised and confident using their initiative.
Takes pride in maintaining high clinical standards and a clean, safe working environment.
Is compassionate, reliable and dedicated to providing excellent patient care.
Previous emergency and critical care experience would be an advantage.
